Observations and Stakeholders’ Views Gathered at Engagement Session on “Review and Outlook of the work of the Commission on Children”
- Participants generally appreciated the work done by the Commission on Children (CoC) in the past five years, in particular the coordinating efforts of various government bureaux and departments to enhance public awareness on the importance of child protection and the well-being of children.
- Participants treasured the opportunities to participate in the stakeholder engagement sessions, which had provided them with the opportunities to exchange views with child-related practitioners of different sectors and explore potential collaborations. They also looked forward to be engaged in the work of CoC more frequently on child-related topics for the promotion of child protection as well as healthy and happy development of children.
- To prepare for the implementation of the mandatory reporting regime of suspected child abuse cases, participants supported the promotional work of CoC on child protection and looked for more comprehensive training to be provided to professional practitioners by the Government. As a preventive measure, promotion of positive parenting should be stepped up to support parents and care givers.
- Some participants appreciated the funds provided by the Funding Scheme for Children’s Well-being and Development of CoC for the non-governmental organisations and schools to run promotional and public educational projects which effectively promote the development and well-being of children. Consideration might be given for the funded-organisations to share their good stories and successful experience in organising the funded projects in the stakeholder engagement sessions of CoC in future.
- Members generally considered that the event was well-planned and the tea reception could effectively engage a diversity of stakeholders who worked closely with CoC.
- The exhibition boards on-site were informative and eye-catching to showcase the achievements of CoC in different dimensions.
- The souvenirs distributed at the event had practical use and could promote the core values of the work of CoC. With media coverage of the event, positive publicity impact was also achieved.
- Some Members considered the venue at the Police Officers’ Club appropriate and the experience of attending the event invaluable.
